Parents often wonder how to calm young children down in just a few seconds. And many methods have failed them.

That causes frustration in both parents and children. Having an energetic and tireless child can cause quite a headache.

So, in today’s article, we’ll discuss the most effective methods to calm young children down quickly.

What Can’t Young Children Calm Down?

Parents have witnessed their children’s mischief and antics, especially if they’re excited and hyperactive. Most people think that high sugar intake is the main reason for energy boosts in children. But that’s not true!

Studies state that there isn’t any solid evidence that links sugar and sweets with hyperactivity. So, what makes children full of energy? Well, the reason lies in how a child’s organism works.

Studies have shown that children have a higher lung capacity than adults. But why is that so?

Children need a lot of energy, which is necessary for them to learn about their environment and experience new things.

Quick Methods to Calm Children Down

Luckily for parents, there are many methods to calm children down, which we’ll cover in the following paragraphs.

·         Palming

Firstly, let’s start with a method that is called palming. Use it when your children are tense or too excited.

Start by telling your children to sit down and take off their glasses (they can imagine they have some, even if they don’t wear any).

Then tell your children to spread their fingers and press their thumbs together. After some time, let them slowly press their hands together.

Now, start rubbing your hands. Slowly increase the tempo. After your children’s hands get warm, tell them to stop.

When they stop rubbing their hands together, tell your children to gently place the palm of their hands over their eyes.

Let them remain in this position for some time. Repeat the same thing if your children can’t seem to calm down.

·         Communication and Validation

Younger children are quite emotional. So, parental care and compassion are essential for their mental growth.

When your children are angry, excited, and energetic, take them for a walk and talk about what makes them feel that way.

If your children are frustrated, tell them you understand them and are always there for your little ones.

·         Alternative Methods to Calm Children Down

There are many other methods to calm younger children down. Some parents like to use screens. But excessive screen time can harm children’s physical and mental health. So, what’s there left to do?

Parents can try turning on soothing music for children. Classical music has been proven to be great for little children.

Moreover, if your toddler or baby can’t calm down, splash some water on their face. That might help them cool off.

You can also calm children down with an acupressure technique. Press your baby’s indention on the top of their ear. That might make them calm.

The Importance of Having a Calm Child

Practicing calm behavior isn’t a one-time thing. Parents should make calmness a habit in their children. Children will carry that calmness with them as they grow up. They can use it in school, at university, or work.

Children should set achieving calmness as a lifetime goal, and parents must support and assist them. Be around your children as much as you can. Communicate, play with them, and track how they grow.

Not one psychologist, doctor, or therapist can replace the parental instinct you have. Embrace it, and raise good people.
