The world has changed. Technology is most important for the development of our world. Every industry that exists depends on technology.
Technology development is moving fast, and all the players in the business world and daily consumers must track the movement.
I remember the first cell phones and PCs, and the programs of the operative systems at the beginning, how they changed in no time, and how we’re all witnesses of the invention of different tech devices and gadgets.
Parents and Kids’ Best Friend
We, parents, are determined to achieve a long-lasting bond with our little ones. But nowadays, “something” is in the middle of our relationship. And that is our phone, TV, or tablet.
When we analyze all of the aspects of tech used by our kids, we can conclude that using tech improves their daily activities. They get “help” whenever they need it, and they are not asking us to help them.
It doesn’t matter what we as parents think when we see the results of the tech used by our kids. Justified tech use by our kids is when our kids are learning and gaining skills.
Let’s find out when to find out when technology use is justified, and when not!
When to Say Yes to The Tech Used by Our Kids?
By managing time, our kids can achieve their growth with the help of technology. There are a lot of tech activities that can help our kids be competitive and accomplish their goals (targets, wishes, dreams).
· Providing information
Technology provides our kids, with easy access to the needed information in a couple of minutes. The only thing they must do is to ask, and there is always “someone” who is supplying them with the info.
· Learning
Tech usage while learning can improve our kid’s intelligence and talents.
All kids have some talent, but they must upgrade their knowledge all the time, and the main helper for that are tech devices.
· Organization, Communication, and Problem-Solving Skills
Our kids must be skilled and well informed at any time because nowadays living is demanding. The technology that they are using contributes to their personality and makes them the best “players” in life.
Finding methods to get to the answers, spending time on research, analyzing and selecting the given information, and dividing the problem into several tiny problems makes them good thinkers and researchers.
· Concentration and Focus
Using tech for constant learning, playing games, or educational apps makes our kids capable of focusing and concentrating until they finish the work.
They are developing the “must finish the job” character which is crucial for your child’s growth.
· Memory Improvements
The main struggle we have faced all in our life is to be capable of memorizing as much information as we want and using it for some purpose.
Besides learning, various games and apps help our kids easily memorize the information in their minds. On the other hand, we, parents, are still using a piece of paper for memory.
Our kid’s memory is like a folder saved in our little ones’ brains and at the given command provides information.
So, correctly using digital devices allows children to grow their memory and capability to learn things.
· Easy communication
With technology usage, our kids develop verbal and nonverbal skills, and communication makes our kids strong and self-confident.
They get less shy when communicating with other kids since they have similar topics to talk about.
When to Say No to The Tech Used by Our Kids
Besides all the positive aspects tech usage provides, we don’t want our kids to transform into robots. Let’s find out all the unpleasant contributions of tech usage for our kids.
· Health Problems
When our kids spend time on their tech- devices, they sacrifice their time to go outside and do physical activities, which affects their bodies (weight gain) and mental health.
· Our Kids Don’t Make Friends Offline
Besides our family, we all have friendships that last forever, from kindergarten to the present.
Our kids use their tech devices almost all the time and dedicate themselves to living in their virtual world and having many virtual friends.
But is that what we wish for them? Of course not. Instead of using tech to communicate virtually with their friend, we can always advise our kids to go outside with that friend and socialize in person.
They will understand our suggestions as soon as they close the door and reveal the beauty of the outdoors.
Lack of Concentration, Focus, and Ability to Memorize
This argument shows both positive and negative aspects of the technology our kids use. They are focused and concentrated, but only on one thing they like, and usually get mentally and physically distracted.
They use their memory for useless things (games or videos) and don’t have enough memory storage for useful things. So make sure to check if your children use their devices for the right cause
Sometimes they can’t even use some information that they have memorized because they are distracted and can’t answer.
Over time tech usage blocks our children’s minds. It can happen at home, school, or outside. Writing notes on paper as a memory tool is not that bad after all!
Balance is effective
So far, we’ve concluded that sometimes we should say no and sometimes yes to tech usage.
To start, you can try combining traditional and modern learning methods when educating children and finding information.
For example, your children can first read the textbook or schoolbook and then expand their knowledge on the Internet.
Find other sources and literature on the Internet and analyze the differences from their schoolbook.
Get them excited and curious about finding out more information and learning with their devices.
Also, when you don’t have any board games left for playing, you can find some on the Internet and make them yourself.
Combining both modern and traditional methods allow your children to broaden their skills and knowledge and focus more.
Conclusion
Our lives depend on our concentration. We must be focused most of the day to achieve our goals.
Children often have problems with their focus, but technology might sometimes help them.
On the other hand, we also mustn’t forget that tech can occasionally take away our children’s concentration. So, experiment and find the perfect balance to maximize your children’s focus.
